Diversions, Part Duh....

Wh00t!

As of this typing, I am DoneDaddyDone with holiday shopping!

Did I already say "wh00t"???

Now I can start decorating, cooking, and addressing those darn cards that have been sitting on the dresser for over a week.
(Somehow, I was hoping that magic elves would come and get the cards started if I just ignored them. I was wrong...
Stupid lazy magic elves.)

It's hard to feel a lot like Christmas when it's been 76° every day this week. Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining... Not when other sweet peas are having horrific ice storms! (Be safe and stay warm, ladies!)
I'm just saying: it's disconcerting to see people walking around in shorts and tee-shirts. IN DECEMBER!

Despite all the pre-holiday business going on - I did have time to find two more diversions that are amusing me today. Enjoy!

  • I'm not sure if I should thank KBella, or curse her! She introduced me to SnowDays.
I'm thinking that I'm going to thank her - although I have wasted more time in the past day...Thanks, KBella!

SnowDays is another "Cut out a Virtual SnowFlake" site - but I like the capabilities of this one better. Even when I'm just mucking about, I'm impressed with the results...

One funny thing - I was using the search feature, so that I could show Bubba all the flakes that Schecky and I had made, and you'll never guess what I uncovered...

I had obviously visited this site once before, on New Year's Eve of 2002.
I have no memory of this (perhaps not surprising, being that it was NYE and all...) but it cracked me up nonetheless.
Yep - way back almost 5 years ago, I made a flake, left a dorky comment, and then never thought of it again. Until now...

(Just to illustrate how old that flake is, it's flake number 10800. There are, as of today, over 5.5 MILLION flakes)

  • If you don't know who Soulja Boy Tell Em is, then the chances are good that you don't live in Atlanta.
    Here?
It's hard to escape that one song...

So this YouTube video of SpongeBob Singing Soulja Boy? Totally. Cracking. Me. Up.

Caution: lyrics not appropriate for youngsters. Except they are practically incomprehensible - so I've been letting Schecky watch with me...

Additional Caution: if you aren't already familiar with Soulja Boy? Don't click on the link - you'll get that thumping bass line stuck in your head and it won't come out. It's totally stupid, and totally infectious. Don't say you weren't warned...

(watch me crank it watch me roll....)

Song for the Day...

Because I'm Awesome by The Dollyrots

Why?

Because we all need to remember just how awesome we are.

(and because I wasn't sure if everyone had gotten their daily recommended dosage of snark today...

I do love snark.)

Glorious Rainy Day

It's raining!
It's pouring!

And if it had been so long since the last time *you* saw rain that you had forgotten what it looks/smells/feels like - you'd be excited about it too!

It's a lovely wet gray day - perfect for staying in and puttering.

Not so coincidentally, that is what's on the agenda for the day.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Of course, I'm not all by myself.
Nope, I've got Bruce to keep me company.

It's funny - I don't consider myself a big Springsteen fan, but his new single "Radio Nowhere" seems to be the only thing I want to listen to today.
(updated to add: How cool it this? It was recorded right here in the ATL. Now I like it even more...)

And you can listen to it too, right here.

enjoy!

*What's making you stupidly happy today? What can't you stop listening to?

Things That Make You Go "Hmmmm..."

Photo taken by Leo Reynolds. (Thanks, Leo!)

39?

How did that happen????

I'm sitting in the parking lot of Borders -- once again borrowing WiFi -- and eagerly awaiting Bubba to return with my copy of the new Harry Potter book.

It's good to be the birthday princess...

And as I wait, I am totally singing this song...

Happy Reading, and Happy Saturday to us all!

De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da... Part Trois!

They're coming!

They're coming!

I knew they couldn't just skip me like that...

They're coming!
November 17th!

And I. am. so. there.
(Bubba, are you reading this????)

De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da WOO HOO!!!!

De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da... Part Deux

Looks like the reunion tour did get announced after all!
Yay!

Wait....
What's that?

They're not coming anywhere near here???
Whaaaaaat?

You're kidding me, right?
Right?

Sigh.

Oh well, looks like they'll be performing the weekend of my birthday.
In TORONTO!

Hmmmm - do you think that's too big of a gift to ask for?
After all, I will be turning 39.
Getting to see The Police might take some of the "Sting" out of that milestone birthday...
(oh no, I didn't just make that terrible pun...)

De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da...

So - how happy did seeing The Police on the Grammy awards last night make me?*

So Very, Very Happy!

I have long been a fan - one of the great regrets of my life was that I was not allowed to drive down to Knoxville in 1983 to catch the Synchronicity Tour.
(She had much cooler parents, and got to go. I love her, but am still quite envious of this...)

I couldn't tell you anything else about the Grammys - I only watched the opening.
I figured that if anything earth-shattering happened I could read all about it this morning, and probably catch it on YouTube...
But I did watch "Roxanne" about 6 times last night...
Sigh...

Aside from wallowing in 80's nostalgia, it's going to be a little quiet around here. Oddly enough, the bears that I need for all the December newborns are not knitting themselves, if you can imagine that?

So, I'm off to knit like the wind, Bullseye!

SCOTS

I was enjoying 3ToGetReady's blog this morning, reading about her son's participation in the Cub Scouts' PineWood Derby. This struck a chord with me because Shecky's been working on his car around here as well.

What really got me to smiling, though, was the subtext - whilst her son was competing, her eldest daughter was finding love at the racetrack.

Ah - a thought that strikes terror into every Southern Mama's heart...

With thoughts of finding love at the track dancing in my head, I hereby declare today "Dirt Track Date Thursday" - in honor of the seminal album by Southern Culture on the Skids.
I will be listening to it all day, and attempting to get my hair to stand up tall and proud*.

If you're not familiar with SCOTS, I highly recommend them. You can hear song snippets at both Amazon and the iTunes Music Store.

If nothing else, be sure to visit the website - and be sure to check out the recipe section. It may be too late for this past Christmas, but you better believe I bookmarked the recipe for the "Gingerbread Trailer" for Xmas 2007!

YeeHaw!

Edited to add: How much do I love WhiteTrashMom? She's hinting that she just might have to make a trailer this weekend! I think this endeavor needs encouragement!!!

*Wish me luck on that one... you've seen my hair. It doesn't do "big" - which was the bane of my 80's high school existence...
