Last night was "Art Show and Portfolio Night" at Schecky's school.
It's a chance for the kids to show off the art projects they've been working on all year, as well as an opportunity for the parents to see how the kids' academic work has progressed since the beginning of the year.
Scheck's teacher had each child write a "Spring Time Poem" for the event.
There were many, many, many shiny happy poems about bunnies, and flowers, and sunshine.
And then there was Schecky's*...

LOVE that boy!
OMG I love it!
I think you have a creative genius on your hands!
i love that child.
He has creativity..I love the pic of the hamster most of all...
OMG! That is too funny.
I love his springtime poem!
Friggin brilliant. I want a t-shirt with that on it.
wow. that's the best thing i've read all week. and i love his illustration, too. what a wonderful boy you have. that's just too cool. i love his sentiments about hamsters.
Oh. My. God!! That is freaking hillarious!! What a proud mama you must be :-)
Yeah, Scheckster. To hell with the happy bunnies. Long live the vile, icky, likcing hamsters!
OKay, i can't type today.
OH MY GOD!!!! MAKE - pant pant - IT - pant pant - STOP!!! CAN'T-BREATH- MUST - STOP -LAUGHING.....PANT PANT
I am with William...I would totally wear a tshirt with that on there!! How awesome. He thinks outside of the box...that's a sign of giftedness...seriously.
You could sell some shirts...think about it! ;-]
Absolutely that art/poem deserves distribution on a t-shirt! I'd buy one!
I have fond memories of my own child's early work in a similar vein. (He is a gentle boy, kind to animals and people. But with a wicked sense of humor!)
btw you should send this post to boingboing.net. They have a form for that.
he's right..those buggers are evil, with a capital E!
right on shecky!
LOL kids are crazy! love it!
So, when do you meet with the guidance counsellor? Cuz if one of my kids wrote something like that, I'd be SURE to get a call from the school. ;)
I love it. Came here via boingboing, but for some reason, I've been here before...someone else must have linked you at some point.
It must be payback time. When I was a kid my neighbour had a hamster named "Shecky." Seriously.
I'm dying here! That is so funny. And what is also funny is that I got this from Boing Boing (so you've been Boinged. How awesome is that?), then clicked thru to your 100 Things and saw your name and... did you used to work for Macy's?
That's hilarious, I want a kid like that someday.
Ok, so I just read the rest of your 100 Things (like, past #1 which had your name in it), and nothwithstanding the fact that I probably would have written half those things on my 100 Things (if I had a blog), but I WAS ON JEOPARDY! TOO! And I came in second! And the guy who beat me wrote crossword puzzles as hobby, and had even had one published in the NYT!
I'm feeling a little woozy now. Maybe I need a little lie down.

he had me at "meef"
Thank god for people like him! Otherwise the world would be full of dull, dull, poets like me!
Personally, I would have gone with "Rats of Spring" as the title.
This is hilarious and he is very creative, however I must disagree with the sentiment. Hamsters are awesome! (At least mine is!)
That's awesome!
An acrostic poem no less. Hang on to that kid, you got a good one.
G.
Anyone else think the hamster looks suspiciously like Ebichu?
It looks like an undead Hamtaro!
Actually, my ex-wife and I had a hamster named Shecky... Coincidence? I think not!
-Andrew Bunny
Classic!
I'm pretty sure he's right. I don't trust hamsters as far as I can throw 'em... and believe me, I can throw them pretty far.
Watch out American parents!
This looks alot like thought crime.
He should be jailed and questioned - maybe even tasered - for such non-standard writings in school.
I bet he's already on the TSA'a no-fly list!
The picture is astounding! Like something out of Roman Dirge. Hysterical.
I think there are some other underlying problems with this kid's psyche.
A future Stephen King?!?
I have to respect the acrostic.
The poetry itself was kick-ass.
But I have to respect the acrostic.
Props to the boy and congrats to you for a good blog and a great 100 Things
I adore this poem! I want to print it out and iron it onto a t-shirt! Would that be okay with you and shecky? I'll make you one too!
I heart this poem! Agreed on the t-shirt. I see a school fundraiser, pretty please...
That is priceless!
Schecky and my youngest son are kindred spirits - Saul LOVED the poem and pic! (I loved them too!)
What a talented word smith you have there, you have every reason to be proud. Your Shecky makes my heart smile.
Ah... There is Hope!
Now about that T-Shirt
I see that large icky licky
posing the question in that beautiful squiggle #2 pencil.
"Where's the Meef?!"
That poem was amazing! There are professional writers who dream of expressing emotions as efficently as this boy did. Top notch!
(plus the pic made me gigggle for about 5 minutes!)
Whoever wrote this must be a reincarnation of my boyfriend. I came across a "spring time poem" and illustration to match he did in 6th grade when we moved. Except his was about landscaping, evil dogs who crap on lawns and eat plastic yard flamingos. he was in a gifted class, so he isn't nuts. haha.
Years later, this entry still makes me laugh.
So good, the link to read this awesome poem has been added to here: http://storyofsmith.com/#/shaze/4545425274
I love the creative thoughts.
Really nice post. Thanks
Nice one. Amazing thought.
