Well, since I scared the living daylights out of everyone yesterday, with the hideousness that was my eye*, I figured I needed to make it up to you with something pretty...
Voila!
While talking with Schecky today, I realized that somehow he's never done the "experiment" where the white carnations change color due to food coloring in their water.
I thought that needed to be rectified. Immediately.
So off we went to the grocery store - only to realize that our Publix doesn't carry white carnations. (Apparently, they "don't sell well in this market," according to the floral associate. Who knew?) So, we got the only white flowers they had and set it all up.
And then Scheck spent the rest of the afternoon asking me every. five. minutes. if the colors had started to change.** Which has the potential to be annoying, I know - but sadly, I was right there with him every five minutes, wanting to know myself! (Secretly, I'm not that much mature than my 8 year old)
(OK, yeah. That's not such a secret, is it???)
I'm halfway worried that it's not going to work, since we're not using carnations... But even if it doesn't work, they still look awfully pretty...
*And please know that it was not my intent to become the posterchild for "why you don't want to go to the eye doctor"! It's important to take care of these things, ladies and gentlemen...
(Plus, here in Georgia, you have to go once a year, or you can't get new contact lenses. Hmph.)
**One of the reasons that he keeps asking me, instead of just trusting what he sees, is that Scheck is almost completely colorblind. He's worried that the flowers are changing colors, but that he isn't able to see it... It's kind of cute, and kind of heartbreaking all at the same time...

I bet Schecky will wake up tomorrow to some really cool looking flowers. I remember doing that in 2nd grade. It was amazing then and I still think it's pretty neat.
I didn't think your eye was hideous at all. Maybe just a tiny bit scary, in the way that one eyeball looking at you is scary. But not hideous. It's a lovely eyeball.
You could also do that experiment with celery (says the science teacher.) Also, if he has red/green colorblindness, he should still see the blue? My husband is color blind, and painting the walls is really stressful, as he can't see the paint going on. :-/
About the eye thing yesterday, that should have gone away within an hour or so, WTH was up with that?
P.S. Why do they make these spam bot word tests so hard? I swear I fail every time. LOL
My son's preschool teacher is 38 and she just did the carnation thing for the first time! I hope it works with your pretty white flowers! :)
I'm 36 and never done the carnation thing! We're baby sitting a 6 and 4 yr old at the end of the month, maybe we'll try it then.
Poor Schekster! My Uncle is color blind, he thought for years that his green truck was brown. I hope he was able to enjoy the color changing flowers (you will let us know how it worked out right?). I remember the celery thing too!
I agree with Autum, your eye isn’t hideous just a little un-nerving, as only one eye looking back at you normally is!
Let us know if it works! I could never get it to work when I was younger. I wonder what I was doing wrong?
What rock have I been liging under? I've never heard of this experiment. You can bet that next time I come across white carnations I'm going to get some to try it out.
I didn't think your eye was gross. It was an eye. Maybe if blood had been pouring out of it or something it may have grossed me out, but yours was lovely.
your eye was not hideous! flower is lovely. i hope the experiment is successful. terrible that you left us hanging, wondering whether it changed colors or not.
so do you go to THE publix that I'm hearing about all the way up here? somehow in conversation someone at my LYS spoke about this great bread that hey got from the Publix in your metro area. someone made a special trip to get that bread. i guess it's artisan bread or some such
We have done it with Daisies, so I'm sure your flowers will work.
And if the Scheckster is colorblind, please teach him how to pick out clothes that match. My husband (who has trouble with shades of green/brown) STILL has cannot put together an outfit that matches. He would walk out the door in some mighty interesting combinations if I weren't there acting as fashion police. He needs adult Garanimals.
hey, i thought that trick worked with white roses too...
They do look awfully pretty. I had never heard of this experiment before either. Now I just might have to try it myself! (well that is if I can get my cats not to eat the flower and drink the water:)
Those white flowers are so much prettier than carnations anyway! Gorgeous.
Never heard of the carnation thing either. Same rock as Beki, I guess.
What are those flowers; they're so pretty.
