One of These Bears is Not Like the Other....

Although "J is for..." is not yet finished*, I wanted to go ahead and do a little share....

The difference between these two is totally cracking me up (and reminds me why I enjoy knitting little bears so much!)

I am using the same wonderful Jess Hutch pattern, and although I've made a few tiny changes - I've not made enough changes to explain the differences between these two.
I've used the same pattern for their bodies, the same yarn, the same needles. I think that I've even been sitting on the exact same spot on the couch whilst making them. (I am, if nothing else, a wonderful creature of habit!)

So why so different?

I'm suspect that as I am dusting off my rusty knitting skills, I am becoming a more confident knitter. Also, a tighter knitter.
Additionally, I know that my toy-stuffing skills have improved vastly since BabyHenry was made. Poor Henry, in addition to being a hydroencephaletic Thalidomide baby**, he is really, really squishy....

Between these two little bears, I've gotten a lot of practice - Henry was the first bear, "J is for..." is the ninth!
I've had a few inquires about "aren't I tired of making bears yet?" And the answer, honestly, is "no." I mean, look at how different these little guys look! Everyone one of them turns out differently, and has their own little personality. (That makes me sound like a crazy lady, doesn't it? I should just be quiet and go feed my thousand cats now, shouldn't I?)

Don't get me wrong, I am eager to take on new projects - in fact I'm interested in trying my hand at amigurumi.
I got this cute Japanese booklet off of eBay.co.uk which was recommended to me by the wonderful MollyChicken. And that's got my interest...

I'm also interested in trying my hand at some fingerless gloves. (hey, did you catch that? hand? fingerless? It takes so little to amuse me....) But these darn little bears are addictive. Plus I know so many people who just need a bear.....

*unlike BabyHenry on the right, who is...

**Sorry for the gratuitous hydroencephaletic Thalidomide baby reference - but you would not believe just how many Google hits I get for that phrase alone.

Great. Just great. Now I can't get that song out of my head.

Cute bears. I can understand why you have so much fun making them.

please share those toy-stuffing skills with me/us. i'm in need of help in that area. oh, i know... you could do a tutorial. or not. i mean, with all those books you're reading, a tutorial would suck you right out of that happy reading place.

it really it quite amazing how different your bears are. hurray! knit on!

oh, and then there was something else... darn it!

you mentioned the japanese craft book. how is that working out? are there english translations? i'm so tempted to order things from amazon.jp but

(1) worry that i won't be able to figure out the instructions and

(2) wonder whether shipping from jp to usa is outrageous?

your thoughts/experience with this, please, madam?

I'm glad you're not tired of the bears yet. I'm not tired of looking at them yet.

And Henry does look squishy, but squishy is a very good look for him.
