Butterfly Fries...

Hmmm - I feel like there must be another name for these,
but I'll be darned if I can figure out what it would be...

Butterfly fries are when they take a potato and thinly slice it in one continuous spiral - so you get one long curly strip.
Which is then promptly fried.*

So - it's really more potato-chippy than French Fry-ish.

Thanks to the fabulous Jenny C. - now you, too, can see the glory and the splendor that is the butterfly fry!

Admit it, don't they look good????

*Don't forget that the official family motto here at the House That Crazy Built is "If It's Fried, It Must Be Tried!"

Ummmm....YUMMY! Ya know, the only reason why I go to fairs is for the food, all the glorious food fried in trans fats.

Unfortunately, I must boycott the Washington State Fair this year because they've decided to BAN, YEP....BAN trans fats. So, I lose out on my beloved once a year funnel cake. Jerks.

I did a little googling and I can't find them called anything other than butterfly fries. Dang that looks good! How have I missed this in all my fair-going?? I am going to be on a mission to find these next summer. The kids consume tons of curly fries at the fair but fries really aren't my fav thing - but if those are more like a potato chip - be still my heart!

Oh, I wish I had some of those right now!

Our county fair starts next week, so I will definitely be looking for these. I haven't noticed them at the fair before.

I think they call them Tortatoes in Idaho. I don't know why. Butterfly fries sounds much nicer. :D
